INTERVIEW: NCOUR - BAROQUE-N DREAMS

BAROQUE-N DREAMS

HOW DO YOU DESCRIBE YOUR WORK?

I describe it formally as compilation aesthetics. It is inspired compositionally by geometry with a heavy dose of art history and recently contemporary design elements and photography.

WHAT DOES YOUR ART FOCUS ON?

I use imagery from the public domain with an emphasis on art historical imagery to create a

contemporary narrative or dialogue. I try to explore ideas that the images don’t convey on their own. With each image I try to have the sum of all the parts create something unique.

WHAT TRIGGERS YOUR IMAGINATION?

I take a lot from day to day conversation and life. Maybe even more than I realize. Historical and contemporary artists also inspire me.

WHERE ARE YOU BASED?

Salt Lake City UT, USA. I am currently an artist in residence at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art.

WHEN DID YOU JOIN INSTAGARM?

A few years ago, but I didn’t start seriously posting my artwork until about a year ago.

HOW DID IT MAKE YOUR WORK EVOLVE?

I started doing collage work last year, which was an evolution for my work. Instagram provide a great

format for it to reach a lot of people. Thanks to features from some great accounts, the work has garnered some great exposure and opportunities.

WHO ARE THE PEOPLE YOU WORKED WITH?

Currently I have been working mostly alone. I was glad to be able do something for Plastik magazine.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU POST?

I try and post at least one thing a day, but sometimes I miss that mark.

WHAT ACCOUNT DO YOU FOLLOW RELIGIOUSLY?
There are a quite a few accounts I really enjoy:@love.watts / @thebluebed / @karenrobinovitz / @ unskilledworker / @differ.tv / @artsxdesign

And of course @plastikmagazine
I like to follow museum and galleries too, to stay current on what is showing around the world.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST LIKED ARTWORK/

PHOTO?

It is a video that uses Frida as the centerpiece.

WHAT ARE YOUR LATEST OR FUTURE PROJECTS/ COLLABORATIONS?
I am working with some galleries in New York and the Middle East for exhibitions. I am also preparing for a show for the residency at the museum.
