PETECIA LE FAWNHAW - Desert Magic

TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOU, THE PERSON BEHIND THE WORK WE SEE, WHERE ARE YOU BASED AND HOW OLD ARE YOU?

I am a multi-disciplinary artist living in Taos, New mexico – a place that inspired many great artists of our time, namely Georgia o’keeffe. My husband, Mark Maggiori is a painter and an inspiration; together we have a beautiful daughter, Loreleï. I was born in 83’, had a humble childhood, which was rendered magical due to the desert and the endless possibilities it provided for us as children to play and get creative: today, this is my soul/sole inspiration.

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT WHEN AND WHY YOU STARTED YOUR PAGE?

I started using Instagram around 2014 when I took a trip to Iceland. I wanted a place to share my individual stories and all the beauty I was experiencing there. I had never been somewhere so extreme and magical. this was also around the time i became self-employed, and needed a platform that provided the most reach.

What does your art focus on?

I like imagining how we could live in harmony and showcasing the beauty already surrounding us on this planet. I find beauty everywhere: in geometric architecture, in vast landscapes, in a weirdly shaped corner of a room. I think the power of artists is the ability to re-envision every day scenarios in a way no one else would have imagined. When we face trouble as a society we must re-imagine how we communicate, treat people; how we operate as a whole.

Besides your computer/phone, what is the one thing you cannot work without?

My moleskin notebook and a paper mate #2 sharp writer pencil.

Has Instagram influenced your work?

Yes, I believe all stimulation influences us. It endlessly nourishes and affects the subconscious which must have an effect on my work.

Your work gets a lot of attention on social media, how does getting online recognition changes the way you perceive and produce your art?

I’m not sure if recognition changes the way I perceive or produce... but it does cultivate new and exciting relationships and collaborative opportunities. I make direct connections with my community, peers and those I admire daily and that definitely enriches my experience and motivates me to continue sharing and exchanging art and ideas with others.

Name three Instagram accounts you follow religiously.
