PORTIS WASP - A SEXY TAKE ON ART

A SEXY TAKE ON ART

TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOU, THE PERSON BEHIND THE WORK WE SEE, WHERE ARE YOU BASED AND HOW OLD ARE YOU?

Hi! My name is Portis Wasp. I am a Scottish mixed media artist, living in Scotland. My work is inspired by pop culture and celebrity, and often takes the form of collages and video mood-boards.

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT WHEN AND WHY YOU STARTED YOUR PAGE?

I started my page at the end of 2014. I had grown tired of social media and no longer wanted to share the kind of content that a lot of people on my feed were sharing at the time, so I began making collages and posting them on my Instagram. It provided me with a platform to be creative and I just focused on making fun images.

What does your art focus on?

My art focuses on having a fun time first and foremost, and embraces many sides of my personality. I want people to have fun with my art, and forget their troubles for a moment when they look at it.

Besides your computer/phone, what is the one thing you cannot work without?

Music! Whenever I work, I usually play one song on repeat for the length of time I’m working. It may sound a little psychotic but it puts me in a great mood and helps me focus on what I’m doing.

Has Instagram influenced your work?

Instagram has changed my life by providing me with a platform to share my work with people from all over the world! It’s a fantastic platform for discovering other artists and I’m very grateful for what it’s done for me. It’s the reason why I get to create art every day and earn a living from it.

Your work gets a lot of attention on social media, how does getting online recognition changes the way you perceive and produce your art?

I will always make my art for me, so I try to not think about how others might perceive my work unless I am working on a commission for a client. At the same time, I do pay attention to what my followers respond to which can be helpful. The support and feedback I have received from my followers on Instagram have helped me to develop immensely as an artist.

Name three Instagram accounts you follow religiously.

I try not to follow too many accounts, as it can become quite distracting to see a lot of content, but these pages provide me with much needed comedic relief: @sainthoax @bennydrama7 and @chloeiscrazy.
